French advance towards Marchais-en-Brie

The southern French regiments are advancing towards Marchais-en-Brie, one of the key objectives. The village sector is defended by a German machine gun company and an infantry company. A German field gun battery is positioned on the southern outskirts. To the right of Marchais, another German field gun battery can be seen sheltering in the cover of a small wood. Three German companies are held back as a small reserve between Marchais-en-Brie and Tremblay.

Some French infantry companies are making their way through the woods. The rest are advancing along the main road, hidden in defilade. The problems of the German defensive position are beginning to become apparent. On this flank, the French will be able to get within firing range without being exposed across open ground.
