Turn 3 saw the first action, with IR 49 spotting the British defenders around Hébuterne. The forward elements of IR 49 began deploying in the line of the old trenches.
In the centre, IR 140 made steady progress towards the major intersection by the sugar beet factory.

Neither side would have artillery or mortars throughout the scenario. This is very unusual for late war scenarios but reflects the problems both sides had getting these assets to this battlefield on the day. German field artillery and Minenwerfer were struggling to get through the congestion around Miraumont. New Zealand Division field artillery and trench mortar teams were still detraining these units are transferring from the Ypres Salient.
