Despite taking casualties in the abortive charge, the remaining cavalry squadrons provide stability to the Russian left flank. The larger Russian cavalry bridges, with their extra numbers of sotna, meant there was capacity to resist the now weakened Austro-Hungarian infantry forces. It was hard for the Austro-Hungarian commander to follow through. The success in this area was bordering on Pyhrric in outcome.
