Break in widens

The Russians were able to exploit the gap left by the first Austro-Hungarian regiment to break. Infantry companies were able to cross the river unopposed and form up on the flank of the Austro-Hungarians trying to re-take the village. The pressure proved too much. A second Austro-Hungarian regiment fled the scene. The game ended at this point.

In reality, the Russian forces were much more cautious in their attack. The Battle of Gnila Lipa is covered in the Great War Spearhead II supplement called ‘Summer Harvest’. There are three versions of the scenario. The first version provides more realistic limitations on how many Russian regiments can activate and move. We played the second version, where all regiments were free to operate from the outset. The third scenario enables the Austro-Hungarians to prepare some entrenchments.

It was a great day. Thank you to the organisers of the show, as well as the participants in the game and the numerous visitors who stopped by.
