German centre begins to crumble

The converging fire from several infantry companies and machine guns has taken its toll on the German centre, in combination with the French artillery fire. The German MG company has been destroyed, bravely firing until the last man. In the wood to the north, a lone German infantry company is struggling to hold on. Further south, other infantry companies in woods are suffering a similar fate. Although the woods offer protection, these companies are also under converging fire. Nevertheless, they too have held up the French advance. This has given their colleagues time to consolidate a second defensive position.
